Trouble installing Audigy 2 NX and Promise 378 controller in Windows Vista Beta 2

The PC that I assembled at home has an Asus K8V SE Deluxe motherboard. This board has a build-in Promise Fasttrak 20378 SATA controller. The Vista default installation did not recognize this controller.

I did some googling and found this article that describes the problem. I tried the solutions that are suggest in the article, but with no success.

I am also having trouble getting Vista to recognize my external USB sound card (Creative Audigy 2 NX).

If someone has any idea on how to solve this, please let me know by dropping a comment.

Thanks.

Vista clock applet, with multiple time zone support

This is to describe once nice feature that I found in the Beat 2 version of Vista. Vista can display clocks in multiple (up to three) time zones. This is how it normally looks in the tray.

And when you click on it, you get this picture..

This is the settings pane for configuring additional time zones.

Vista System Performance Rating

I managed to install 'Windows Vista Ultimate' Beta 2 (Build 5384) on a Dell Precision work station 360. The machine was running a 3.2 G Hz Pentium 4 and had 1GB main memory and 80GB SCSI disk. It also had a NVIDIA Quadro Fx 500 display card with 128 MB graphics memory.

Pre Windows Vista, the above configuration can be considered 'good-enough' for normal usage. But I was surprised to find that the Vista gave it an overall System Performance Rating of just 2!

With this rating, Vista will not enable the 3D desktop features. I guess, 128 MB graphics memory is too little for Vista!
